Scenic Route
风景线
For Lucy, ho called them "ghost houses"
Someone as alays leaving Scenic Route
and never ing back.
The ooden houses ait like old ives
along this road; they are everyhere,
abandoned, leaning, turning gray.
Someone alays traded
the lonely beauty
of hemlock and stony lakeshore
for survival, packed up his life
and drove off to the city.
In the yards, the apple trees
keep hanging on, but the fruit
gros smaller year by year.
When e e this ay again,
the trees ill have gone ild,
the houses collapsed, not even orth
the human act of breaking in.
Fields ill have taken over.
What e ill recognize
is the ind, the same fierce ind,
hich has no history.
